Road to Success

After graduating from Harvard in 1985, Conan began his "showbiz" career by moving to L.A. to write for Not Necessarily the News, a short lived TV series. He also performed in obscure shows, including a comedy troop, before being recruited by Lorne Michaels for Saturday Night Live in 1988. Conan achieved notable success as a writer for SNL, and won an Emmy along with the other SNL writers in 1989. After leaving Saturday Night Live, Conan first wrote for a pilot that was not picked up, then found himself writing and producing for The Simpsons. He then became a supervising producer of the extremely popular animated show. Conan had quickly found success in L.A. just as he had in Boston.
